I still remember the first time I had Nutella – If you don’t know what Nutella is – it’s a delicious chocolatey concoction of roasted hazelnuts, milk, and cocoa. It’s so good, I can eat it by the spoonful. So, this recipe combines the best of both worlds – chocolate cake and Nutella.
If I have to cheat and make a chocolate cake, it’s always going to be the Trader Joe’s Chocolate Cake Mix. It makes a large 13 x 9 cake that’s about 2 inches thick when done. It’s delicious and moist and I can’t tell the difference from making a chocolate cake from scratch.
Prepare the cake mix according to directions – I use oil instead of butter and for the Nutella spread, combine the following:
Ingredients:
1 cup Nutella
6-8 ounces of softened cream cheese
1 stick melted butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
Directions:
Beat the cream cheese and Nutella until creamy, add melted butter, eggs, and powdered sugar. Beat until smooth.
Place cake batter into greased 13 x 9 cake pan. Spread Nutella mixture across the top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Serve with ice cream.
I know, some of you are thinking, darn – we don’t have a Trader Joe’s near us or our grocery store doesn’t carry Nutella. Just tried this recipe…it’s a disaster. The nutella topping all seemed to slide to the middle of the cake when baking. This resulted in the middle never getting cooked and the outside section is burned. Very disappointing!
I’m sorry to hear that Jeannine! I’ve made this cake several times and it always turns out perfect. The middle is going to be a little pudding like but the Nutella shouldn’t slide towards the middle of the cake.
Just finished baking this cake and I am very disappointed. It was not good. I took two bites and threw the rest away. Waste of time and ingredients in my opinion. My husband want a fan either.
