The world has lost a true visionary today. Steve Jobs, the genius behind Apple revolutionized mobile technology. Because of Steve and the invention of the iPhone, we are where we are today. We were one of the first companies to develop iPhone apps for children back in 2007. I still remember my husband walking in the door and exclaiming, “This is going to revolutionize the mobile industry. I can’t wait to write apps for it!” My dear husband is not one to be easily impressed. But he was right – and here we are, still innovating 4 years later.
Our two children grew up with the latest iPhones and iPads, always quick to figure out that the latest model is faster, sleeker, and better than the last one even without all their apps on it. My friends are always amused when I ask my daughter to bring me one of the iPads…not the iPad, but one of them. It is always a sight to see when we travel. My poor husband always ends up having to haul all the electronics through security while I get both kids. Not sure who has the harder job. He usually pulls out both of our MacBooks, both our iPhones, and our iPads to send through the x-ray machine.
The app market has truly changed how we live our life. There truly is an app for everything. My children can easily learn new languages, learn math in a fun interactive manner, watch their favorite movies, and more on this tiny little device. Because of Steve, my children can “see” their Grandparents on their phone every night before bedtime.
Thank you Steve. From the bottom of our hearts for teaching us the true meaning and value of innovation. Two of my favorite quotes from Steve are, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower” and ”Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs, From the Stanford Commencement Speech, June 2005 - May you rest in peace.
